Marriage can’t reduce my fan base - Aramide

Background

My childhood was fun. The experience was good because my parents gave me the kind of attention that I needed to grow up properly. Even when I moved to Jos, it wasn’t difficult for me to settle down because my parents made it very easy.

Education

I studied political science at the University of Jos. I studied the course because I wanted to be able to understand the political terrain in Nigeria, as well as contribute my quota to the growth and development of the nation.

Music

I had always wanted to become a music star from a very young age. I grew up in a musically-inclined family, and this gave me the push that I needed to survive as an artiste. My style of music is called Afro Soul and it helps me to express myself. I also sing about past experiences because I want to educate the society through music.

Star Quest

My experience at the 2006 edition of Star Quest was a good one. I learnt the essence of hard work, persistence and focus.  These virtues helped to grow my career. Even though I had to work with others, I had to imbibe these qualities because they helped me to do better than expected.

Trybe Records

My time at Trybe Records was amazing. I worked with some of the best hands. I recorded my debut single, I don’t mind and other tracks at Trybe Records. It was a great experience working with people at the label. All my songs are products of hard work. There’s no Aramide song that you’d listen to and wouldn’t appreciate. However, the song, Iwo Nikan, holds a special place. It talks about the commitment lovers make. A relationship built on love is one that will stand the test of time and break through every obstacle.

Fame

I’m the same person that I’ve always been; nothing has changed about me. I don’t think being a celeb should change my personality. I do not see myself changing at any point in my life. Perhaps, if I’d have to experience any change, it’d be about me moving from the good woman that I am to the better woman that I wish to be. But so far, Aramide is still Aramide.

Regrets

I have no regrets as far as my career is concerned. By God’s grace, I’ve scaled through every hurdle I’ve encountered. I am confident that things will always work out well.

Current projects

Right now, I’m planning to take my brand to every corner of the world. Therefore, I’m putting so much effort into achieving this aim. My team and I are gearing up for my tour of the United States, Aramide Suitcase Live, in August.

Marriage

Being married has been very wonderful. I’m glad that I took the decision to walk down the aisle. Although, people expected it to be tough and distract me or drag my career, but I must say that I’ve been able to do so much even as a married woman. My husband supports my moves and I’m glad about this. I don’t believe that marriage reduces an artiste’s fans. An artiste only loses her fans when she fails to deliver as much as expected. Marriage is something that anybody should take pride in and I’m one of such persons. My fan base can only reduce when I stop performing optimally. But that is not a chance that I want to take.

Balance

Permit me to say that I’m married to one of the best men in the world. My husband is someone who supports my brand. He is understanding, caring and helps me to stay strong at every given point. With a man that considers my interest, it’s been very easy for me to manage my career and my home.

Role models

I appreciate the likes of Erykah Badu, Miriam Makeba, Sade, Angélique Kidjo and other great artistes for their influences.
